When I was 3 I had a hernia in my pelvic region. They were going to have to put me under and everything and told my parents to familiarize myself with the mask and everything. They totally left out the whole sleeping gas and carting me off to some creepy-ass room thing.
When the sleeping gas stuff hit my face, I smelled the candy-like perfume they put in it. I don't know why they thought that was a bright idea, because instead of sitting there and just magically falling asleep, I knew I was being gassed. According to my parents, it took the three nurses and the surgeon to hold me down, and when I came to, I was clawing and punching and kicking and screaming. My parents were like "What the heck did you do to him?"

I had my wisdom teeth removed... My sister has had over 30 surgeries so yes I definitely know somebody who has had them.
I've got a friend who's just have her uterus taken out, she had problems with it. My sister before her braces had to have 12 teeth taken out, my brother had to have the top of his mouth cut open to get his canine's removed before he had braces they both had to be put to sleep so I count that as surgery. I know two mums who had breast cancer, and had surgery to remove them. Unfortunately both of their cancers have irreversibly progressed. I've watched an operation before when I did work experience at a hospital, that was fun.
@update blady hell that's a lot of surgery.
My mum had her knee replaced. She was so hardcore that they did the surgery with a special anesthetic that only 'turned off' the feeling below her waist. So she was awake and talking to the surgeon at the same time. I think I would have passed out if I were in her position but she used to be an operating room nurse so it was fine.
Other than that, my brother has had two surgeries on his toes and a close family friend had surgery on his shoulder and back.
Luckily, although I have been hospitalised for serious issues, I've never had to go under the knife.

Pretty much everyone in my immediate family. I got two wisdom teeth removed (because my upper jaw was too small to support them), my mother did her wrist in in a car crash before she met my father, my father broke his hand falling off a ladder a few months ago, my sister needed stitches after an incident involving being stabbed by a tree branch, one of my brothers slipped on ice while drunk and split his chin open, and my youngest brother suffered a testicular tosion.
Of course, besides the wisdom teeth thing, I've never been injured enough to warrant a trip to the hospital, save for the time I injured my ankle when I was like 6.I had oral surgery to yank out my wisdom teeth when I was 16, and endoscopic surgery to take out my appendix about a year and a half ago. =] My boyfriend has had several surgeries as well. Appendix, a throat surgery, wisdom teeth, and a couple others I think.
Well, only two surgeries that I can remember; one emergency surgery to stitch up all these gashes and another one to deal with some complications involved with radiation poisoning.
But look on the bright side...free PAINKILLERS!I've had surgery over two dozen times. Most were shunt revisions.
One vasectomy.
One wisdeom teeth extraction (all four)
One circumcision (totally against my will)I'm really too old for the site but am keen to compare notes with others who have had surgery, esp early on, as I started with pyloric stenosis in 1945 and it left me with a few issues. Since then I've been fit and healthy, except for the odd tooth removal. But in the last 4 years I've had 3 eye ops (one for a detached retina, a bit risky but it's come very good) and 2 eye cataract removals and lens implants - routine stuff and a good outcome).
My brother had a surgery
My grandmother had a surgrey.
My dad had a Surgery.
My ancle had a surgery twice and it worked.i've only had dental surgery. I had all my teeth knocked crooked when I fell flat on my face while playing dodgeball. I still remember when I asked the other kids how it looks, I could see their horrid faces but they kept insuring me that it looked fine. it actually looked horrible.
3 surgeries myself: 1 for pyloric-stenosis, 1 ACL/knee surgery, and 1 thumb surgery.
Hmmm I had surgery when I broke the bone in my arm in half.:o But that's about it for me... My dad has had multiple back surgeries, and my mom's had surgery because of a kidney stone and some other things.:s
I have, and I know a couple of others who have as well.
I have had only one surgery(not dangerous) my mother had maybe 15(dead) my x girlfriend had 2(dead) my father had maybe 4 or 5(dead) my sister had 2 or 3 and is doing well I guess. There are many many people I know that have had at least one or more surgeries.
No. Although I'm sure I may need knee surgery when the time comes. I merchandise store shelves for a living, stocking them back to front. After I'm on them for such a long period of time, it will, on occasion, hurt like hell getting up.
mine werent as brutal as your but I had my tonsules and adnoids removed.
Oh no I have a sad story with one I knew. It was my grandfather. went in for quadruple bypass. He didn't make it. ;-(
Yes to both. I had surgery to remove a toenail, and some dental surgery in the past. And I've known plenty of people who had surgeries of all shapes and sizes.
Luckily, Me and none of my family member ever had any surgery except my late maternal Grandfather. and he had eye surgery like 15 years ago.
You are a tough girl, 9 surgeries :-O1 surgery to remove my wisdom teeth and 1 surgery to repair 3 bones I broke in my leg
ive had 3 hernia surgeries, at ages 5, 8, and 12. the first 2 were here in new york. the last was in another country, and that's the one that worked.
these surgeries basically ruined my life because I was prohibited from participating in many physical activities. now I'm fat, and suck at sports.Omg...you've had quite a few
I've broken my leg had an injury which I needed surgery to fix
My mom has had quite a few but that's about it in the familyI've never been hospitalised at all, never mind surgeries. I have family and friends who have had some though, all of which went fine.
