wait seven days and try the treatment again, once all the lice I'd gone there will be eggs (nits) stuck on individual hairs and it'll be difficult to remove them one by one, apply a generous amount of vinegar and wash out after a couple of hours with plenty of shampoo and conditioner than usual (you should do this with the treatment too) and make sure to use a nit comb too. use the treatment every seven days and vinegar every time you shower

It would be best to read what product you are using, as they all might be different. Make sure to vacuum and wash all fabrics in your house! Jackets, hats, scarfs, ect. If you can't wash them, put them in bags for a few weeks.
Follow the directions on the bottle or given to you at the pharmacy. I don't know what it would hurt, but there's usually a good reason why products come with directions.
Don't overdo any kind of treatment or else you will cause more harm than good.
Wait it out and make sure to clean everywhere you put your hair on.

Relax, you're ruining your hair! You should wait seven days or so after the initial treatment before you repeat it so your mom's right. You can comb your hair (with a nit comb) meanwhile to get rid of any nits or even lice, and don't forget to wash your sheets.
Or you can go to the dr, who will confirm if you have lice, and they will give you the proper medication for it. Yes it really is that simple.
