Trying to gain weight and/or muscle? Workout tips?

I have been skinny all my life, I am trying to put on some weight and/or muscle. I have been taking a weight gainer supplement for a few weeks now but I still see no improvement. I have been going to the gym also. I am getting stronger because the weights seem easier to lift but I am staying at the same weight. Any tips on how to gain weight? One guy suggested for me to lift heavy and a few rips, therefore I don't sweat because I should not be sweating at all since I have a fast metabolism. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
