if you started coughing right after you got off the treadmill that probably means that you had some type of build up in your lungs. It's nothing to be worried about, it's actually good for you. The running is breaking up the crap in your lungs and you might even start coughing it up. Whenever I feel sick or congested I usually go running or so some kind of cardio because it helps to break up all the stuff in your system. Running also helps clear up your sinuses :)

excellent question, same thing happens to me it weird, I dance 18 hours a week (and have recently diagnosed asthma) but I went to my doctor and he said that its because I was pushing myself to much physically and since I ignored the signs I had developed fluid in my lungs (which can be fatal) so what I am trying to tell you is to be careful and limit yourself because you might get hurt <3 hope this helped!
All these answers are wrong. I am a collegiate XC and Track runner and had this happen in the past.
It's exercised induced bronco-spasms which is a form of asthma (exercised induced asthma).
You are NOT sick. The cough should go away in a few hours post workout. Certain conditions can aggravate this condition such as cold air, dry air, etc.
Good luck
There is an astronomical amount of bacteria in a gym, locker room, or shower. It is entirely possible to get sick from working out. Always use an antibacterial wipe on the machine before and after using it. Always bring your own towel. Always shower immediately after working out.

No but being fat will make you sick so get on that.
you just pushed your body past its limit a bit , so your body needs time to adjust.
