Give him some real cheesy line like, 'You're still the best footballer to ME', or whatever. Treat it with levity, don't treat it with the same gravity he does, but be understanding of why he treats it with such gravity. That way, first of all, he knows his girl still supports him, second of all, he won't feel like the people closest to him think him loosing is a big deal, and lastly, he'll feel like he isn't an idiot for taking it so seriously. That's all you could really ask, right?

In my opinion the best thing you can do is just let him know that you're proud of him, he'll win the next one, and you're there if he needs you. If he wants to be alone he'll stay alone, but if he wants to talk about it letting him know that you're there for him let's him know that he can confide in you. Most guys want to be alone after something like that though so give him his space. He'll come to you if he doesn't need the space.
