I think it is perfect for me cause I am looking to get lean and not neccesarily bigger. Just cut fat and apparently it is quite good for that.
What diets have you tried
Anabolic sounds a lot like Akins :) I do think that even while your body is in full ketosis (that is when proteins are joined by body-created ketones to metabolize into energy at a highly inefficent rate which is substituing for the carb loss), I do think you need a little bit of carb as a catalyst to kick off this process. It is a ridiculously low amount (less than a slice of bread's worth), but a genuine 0 in the beginning can be dangerous to your health.
Your body WILL go into ketosis though on under 140 (one slice of bread a day), as I've done the diet.
The weight loss was excellent, and salads with fatty dressings actually taste delicious.
There are a couple of drawbacks. The first is when it was popular there were tons of no carbohydrate products, like icecreams made with splenda-sugar, and that makes the diet pretty easy to bear. Since the death of Dr. Atkins (to be fair, he was in his 70's) and its association with high-cholesterol (not so much a problem in our age group), it lead to a marketing fear that the diet was falling in popularity and resulted in a decrease in products that are friendly to this kind of diet. Another words, bacon or steak for the 99th night in a row DOES get old, so unless you are something of a cook, finding foods is a little more challenging than it was 6-8 years ago.
The second drawback is vitamin in-take, so be sure to take a vitamin tablet. This is pretty serious. The only way to avert trouble without a vitamin is to very, very, very carefully pick every type of vegetable you eat to make sure you get them all. Unless you want something really awful to happen to you like your vision getting drastically worse or have one of your major organs start functioning poorly, be sure to get your vitamins! Unless you eat liver which is a vitamin storing organ, most meats will not give you all of your vitamins.
Also if you have to visit the doc for any reason and end up peeing in a cup, be sure to TELL them you are on this diet. The testing they do in your urine will pickup ketones to see if the body is absorbing nutrients correctly. You will have them of course because you introduced them through carbohydrate denial, which is a normal reason to have them. But if you have ketones in your urine and you are eating normally, that is a huge red flag, so if you don't want the doc to jump the gun and think your dying, let them know ahead of time.
I think you can also buy ketone strips that will measure the ketones in your urine to see how your carb intake is going. This is useful if you want to slow down losing weight. You will lose a TON of weight, but there comes a time where you want to hit the brakes, so gradually introducing carbs will help stop the continued weight loss unless you want to look like a meth addict.
The definite upside is you don't feel hunger and the high protein intake is great for exercising because it goes straight to your muscles and prevents muscle atrophy.
my diet varies according to the body I want to have at some moment I need low body fat % and a lean boy and some time have to put on some muscles to look jacked ...i dnt believe in zero carbs and addingto it a high protein since it causes gall bladder cancer,it increases the chances of prostate cancer growth, and the insulin-like growth factor axis
I've tried the "eat only when you're hungry diet" worked pretty well lol, I dropped 15 pounds in 2 months or less, although my metabolism is pretty fast. You can basically eat what you want, when hungry, but when you see that delicious looking candy bar at the register before leaving a store, just be like, "I don't need it" and walk out (after paying of course, sounds hard, it's very easy) lol as you can tell this isn't even a real diet plan, but it works for me lol
my diet is 'eat even when you're not hungry' - because I tend to loose too much weight. I just try to eat at the same time every day and don't spend more than 4hours without eating.
