Vitamin E oil worked best for me. If you can't find just the straight oil, get the capsules with oil in them from the vitamin section at your local supermarket. Break the pill open and put the oil directly on your scars.
I can't guarantee any particular rate at which it will fade the scars, but I know it works really well for a lot of people.
Another thing you can do is use that self tanning lotion. A little tanning helps even out skin tone, but with the lotion, you don't have to go out with your scars exposed in order to get them to fade, and you won't have to worry about the sun causing so much further damage to them.
For continued care, remember to use SPF and practice safe sun. After a while, you should be able to stop applying oils and other topical treatments.
And I hope you've put that part of your life behind you after seeing what it's like to have to continuously deal with the aftermath. I changed my habits by working out when I was angry. In my opinion, nothing beats shadowboxing to your favorite hardcore music when you need a way to blow of steam and vent. The endorphins you'll get naturally from the physical activity will benefit you, too.

make sure you massage it in, don't just put it on the scar. massaging it helps break up the collagen bonds which form the scar tissue.
Its worth a try but in my experience scars fade slowly if they do at all. And scars from cutting seem to fade the slowest.
(Got 5 scars of cutes on my hands and 2 severy burning scars and some little ones so I know from experience)
