If you're that concerned about people thinking negatively of your appearance if you go to a gym, there are some things you can do at home. Get something to hold your feet down with and do sit ups. Start with 3 sets of ten. Try doing pushups in the same form. As you feel more comfortable, put your hands closer together. It will make it harder and you will continue to feel the burn of working out.
Also, try buying some free weights and do some exercises with those. Start with something light (i.e. 10lbs) and do some arm curls for example. Also, do what I call a variable-based workout. Between exercises, go on the treadmill for five minutes at 3.5mph and a 2.0 incline to start with. This will keep your heart rate changing and will burn much more fat than a normally structured workout. I work at a gym and trained with a world champion mixed martial arts fighter.

There are plenty of at home workouts you can do. It's as simple as going out and buying p90x, insanity, whatever at home workout program that appeals to you the most.

But in the mean time, here's a fun workout (more like bahahahaha evil fun).. they're called m-100s. And they're an ideal workout to show you what intensity is, and how you need to bring it in to every workout. ;)
The objective is to complete all 100 reps as fast you can. Time yourself. Then continuously improve those times.
