Hey, I live a few blocks from your hotel. No good reason not to solo on the subway, but not my call.
Food: 9th ave, has lots of places. Menus outside. Piazza, Brick Oven, on 44th st, just west of 9th ave. can get by the slice. Real cheap, $1 (well 99¢) a slice, 9th ave (west side) near 41 st. burgers, island burger, 9th ave (east side) 51 st, few, doors up, $6-9 depending on add ons and fries. Couple of other places, but lots of food. Look at price, neighborhood getting pricey, but still bargains. Safe for solo female, so family doesn't freak. And there is McDs. Want more, ask...

Ummm, McDonald's! Duh! Just kidding. I don't really have a suggestion. That was the first thing that came to mind. Only time I've been to NYC was when I was your age, and I remember it being so much fun. Have a great time!
John's Pizzeria (on 44th between 8th and 7th/Broadway) has really good pizza when I went there. If you & your family are going to eat dinner there one night I'd suggest a reservation because its a pretty popular place.
There are plenty of little deli's or food courts and stuff on 8th Ave a few blocks up or down from 45th Street.

When I was there I went to a place called Tonic and also Ray's Pizza. Both good experiences. Tonic had a good cobb salad. Enjoy your stay, it's sort of surreal the first time you stand in Times Square. :)
im from nyc. real new yorkers know thast times square is the worse place in NYC.
But definitely head towards 9th avenue, and get away from all of the glitz.
also, don't go to bubba gumps, food is terrible and expensive
