What are your feelings about Juice Fasts? Have you ever tried one?

Juice fasts are chocked full of sugar. Yeah, it may be natural fruit sugar (fructose) if there are no added sugars like sucrose or high fructose corn syrup to enhance the flavor, but sugar is sugar and you'd be better switching from everything you drink normally to just plain water. Don't FAST on water. Eat the same amount of whatever you normally eat and drink a ton more water. Juice fasts are just going to make you spend a lot of time in the bathroom and I guarantee you it won't be number 1. And it won't be number 2. It will be a combination of number one and number 2 coming out of your butt. That's a guarantee.

what about vegetable juice?

I dunno. I've never heard of a vegetable juice fast. But if you're looking to detox, I'd look into Goldenseal Root. They come in capsule form and they're good for detox (getting the baddies out of your system). Also, Milk Thistle is good for getting crap out of your liver in the long-term. I know, because I purchase Milk Thistle seeds, grind them up myself, and capsulize them.

They may get temporary results, but what is the point of them if, when you go off them, you gain back all the weight you lost? The only way to lose weight for the long term is to either excercise a lot more (and I mean a LOT more - exercise really doesn't burn fat all that well) or change what and when you eat so as to limit your calories.

well, I could see you point if people were doing them only to loose weight...what about detox?

My friend did it! She only had smoothies for a month.

I remember afterward she couldn't even eat normal for a little while, so she only ate soft fruits at first and slowly built her diet back up.

She lost a nice amount of weight, though not something really visible.

I personally wouldn't advise doing this, because once you start eating normally again, your body will store the food because you were in a type of starvation mode...

Though ultimately it's up to you! :)

They are a waste of time. People lose weight quickly because of the extremely low calories and it slows the metabolism down so once the fast is over people gain back the weight and sometimes more.

They are staggeringly dumb.

I say this as someone who has used crash diets happily. But juice is one of the stupidest things to consume when running a very low calorie diet.

I read an article about a guy who went on one for like a month. He said he couldn't think straight for a long time. He talked about how all the people around him first were like you look better then even even though he had never felt so bad. Eventually all his friends started asking if he had cancer because he was losing so much weight.

I think Juice is a bad idea. you're better off getting a proper cleanse. My mother and I used to do a watermelon cleanse every year...not that that's proper either.

just watermelon, eat as much of it as you want. but it's not for weight loss, it's for cleansing. there is a difference.

juice fast will contain a ton of added sugar and there's no fiber or anything that would really cleanse you.

no, but when they turn fruits and vegetables into juice, they add sugar.

who is "they"? They don't pump my fruit and veggies with added sugar? where is that coming from? Have you ever been to a juice bar?!

no, I've never been to a juice bar, I don't drink juice, I eat fruit because it's better for you, and if you're planning on purchasing all your juice from there, which is an expensive option, and they squeeze the fruit right in front of you, then there probably isn't added sugar. but if you go to a grocery store, which I thought was what you were planning to do, then most (not all) juices have sugar added or are made from concentrate.

I own my own juicer...it costs me 30 bucks to feed me for an entire week and I make juice constantly so I don't get weak.
