I think of fats being taken out without sugars being included.
I think of sugars being taken out, and replaced with artificial sugars that increase diabetes and appetite.
In terms of diets, I think of people eating less than they normally do until they lose enough weight, then going back to eating like they were once they are at the right weight, only to wonder why the weight came back on.
I also think of changing eating habits without a method that sticks. That is, to lose weight, you find foods you hate and can't develop a taste for, then wonder why it's a chore to keep it up. You have to love what you eat if you want it to stick.
I guess I'm just not a diet person.
When I think of someone saying they're going on a diet, it's a loss weight quick scheme. They lose it all and gain it back next year. Diets don't work and they never will. We already have a habit of eating which is called a diet.
People need to get off their lazy ass and have lifestyle change.
I think of the insanity of humanity. Diets to me are people starving themselves to drop weight fast then putting it back on again plus some and starting the whole thing all over again. But I've never been on a diet so it's easy to judge from the outside looking in.
Diet is what you eat on a daily basis.. doesn't matter what it is.. it's a diet!
Though most people think of it as as something you do when you're fat.. :/
Anyway, when I hear the word, I see lettuce, boiled eggs! lol and a measuring tape!
depends who says it... to me it just means what you eat... like my turtle eats a plant based diet. When I hear it on Tv it makes me cringe so many unhealthy habits and lies that are making somebody some good money.

Ignorant people listening to money hungry idiots about how to loose weight.
I don't of course think that diet means only trying to lose weight, but half of the health questions here are about crash diets. The minute I see or hear that word I'm assuming it's about that and immediately in "why are you doing this to yourself" -mode.
I think housewifes and young attention seeking girls, that think that losing a few pounds will help them feeling better about themselves. It's so stupid! If you wanna get skinny - and stay that way - you'll have to change your lifestyle, not what you eat in a few months.
For me : a particular choice of food consumption, i.e type of food, regimen.
In my mind I see an array of healthy foods because I like a balanced meal. I see a typical plate of mine, tofu, vegetables, nuts, legumes. Nom.
Trying to lose weight quickly for aesthetical reasons. I know it has multiple meanings, but I've had to deal with this specific definition most often.
Eating differently than you did before to get some kind of results you want.
Diet to gain weight involves higher caloric intake and more carbs, etc.
