Yes, a very HUGE difference. A diet is practically a one time thing until you lose as much weight as you want. Then most people go straight back to how they were eating before and gain the weight right back. Diets, for the most part, are short term.
A lifestyle change is a complete change of what you eat and what you do on a day to day basis for the long run.

well technically a diet is every type of eating habit,but diet usually refers to a short term commitment,while a lifestyle change is long term.
