Boy, you've gained weight. Girls, what would you do if someone said this to you?

Yesterday I ran into an old co-worker and he looked at me with surprised expression and said "Boy you've gained weight" ...I was in shock. This man is older so I really don't think he knew the impact his words would have, but needless to say I was upset.

It's true...I have gained about 10 pounds. I'm 5'8 and when I was in that job I weighed around 130 and now I weigh about 140. Both are perfectly fine weights and it honestly hasn't even changed my ability to fit in my clothes, but I don't like that I gained some weight and hearing someone say it so bluntly honestly left me devastated.

I'm now starving myself back to 130 and I'm just so angry. Everyone thinks I'm overreacting, but I've struggled with eating disorders all my life. This is a touchy subject for me and I just think moreso for me than most.

How would you react?

I had this happen to me once before, but the person who said it to me was my ex. Either way, it stung when I heard it.

I just made more of an effort to watch what I ate. Tried to be a little more active in my daily routine.

I ended up getting the last laugh in my situation though, as the next time I saw him was a year later, at which point I was 25 lbs heavier than the previous year, but that tine, I was pregnant. So I ended up saying to him "if you think I look fat now, it's because I'm PREGNANT!" Then I walked away. Lol

Now, I'm not saying going get knocked up so you can say that when you see your old cowroker! :) I do suggest just letting it roll off your back and taking caring of yourself for YOU and not because of some insensitive guy.

btw 5'8 and 140 is no where near fat. You probably look nice

I know you are asking girls, but I will give you this from my perspective. Any guy that would say this is rude, now he may not have meant anything by it and even could of meant it as a complement saying you looked better (doubt it). Although in answering how I would react I would first take it with a grain of sat, as it has happened to me before, and then simply put them in the pile of "a**holes who I don't want to be friends with". While continuing with my day.

You don't change yourself for somebody else, or general opinions... Exceptions obviously entail to small habits that might be found annoying.

Being older is no excuse. If anything he should no better because of it.

I'd react by exercising. People who starve themselves to lose weight clearly don't know how their body works. I'd never have that said to me because I, you know, exercise.

For the record, I already work out regularly. In fact, last Saturday I ran in a 15 mile race.

Don't work out properly

Don't eat properly

Don't have very good genetics in this particular area

You're an idiot. It's called an eating disorder. I already said I've struggled with that my entire life. My workout regime is fine. Anyone who knows anything about the human body knows you can be physically still be fit at a thinner 130 or at 140.
