You'll find people claiming that the popular artificial sweeteners used today cause everything from headaches to cancer. But clinical studies does not show any correlation between usage of artificial sweeteners and any of these conditions. A moderate intake of artificial sweeteners (aspartam, acesulfam, sucralose) is not going to affect you negatively in any mentionable degree.
But all of the sweeteners mentioned above are known to have a mild laxative effect. So eating a lot of it might give you the runs.
And they may cause insability in your body purely from psychological reasons. You taste sweet, but your body isn't getting any sugar and gets confused. This is not shown in studies though since it is not really a physiological effect.
What studies have shown is that there is correlation between drinking artificially sweetened drinks and obesity. But the causality is most likely backwards - fat people drink diet soda, slim people don't. Sweeteners do not make you fat.
You'd be better off learning to drink tea and coffe without sweetener.

There's evidence that some of these substances can damage your kidneys or liver, and most importantly, affect your blood pressure. But using them short term, just to lose weight, and then stopping the usage of these chemicals, should not be a worry.
Just don't use them for years on end.

why would it be dangerous? theyre used in so many things! unless manufacturers are trying to take over the world by food poisoning us! :O
Uh cancer, diabetes, possible ulcerative bleeding, deter acting things in your body. Builds up formaldehyde in your body if you consume it often and enough that's where the chaos happens.

No trouble mixing artificial sweeteners and sugar. The only thing is that you're conditioning yourself to very strong sweetness, it would be better to manage to reduce the amount of sweetness all over. But the mix in itself is perfectly ok.
