Do tall people find it awkward to make eye contact with short people when standing?

I'm short and I have a crush on a guy who is over a foot taller than me. I noticed that in general, if we are talking and we are both standing, he avoids eye contact with me. He will seem decently engaged in talking to me, but he will look above me or to the side, or even at me out of the corner of his eye, but rarely directly in my eyes.

If he is sitting and I'm standing, he makes eye contact much more easily.

Do really tall people find it difficult to make eye contact with people who are significantly shorter than them or something?

Not awkward, but it just makes me really aware/self conscious about how tall I am.

I doubt its to do with height, but comfort. Sitting down is more relaxed and easier to be personable. Standing up is inherently more awkward (how do you stand? what do you do with your hands? etc). A lot of people are uncomfortable with a lot of direct eye contact anyway.

I'm 6ft 3 so I think I can wager in my view on this quite nicely. I still make eye contact with short people, so long as I'm comfortable around them, it's not that hard to slightly tilt my head and rotate my eyes to look at someone.

If he's avoiding eye contact, he's probably uncomfortable. It's not uncomfortable at all for me. It can be a turn on to talk to short women. There's some kind of natural primitive dynamic going on.

I got a vibe that he felt shy or awkward or something like that but I have no idea what I was doing to make him feel uncomfortable. I was talking normally and I felt like I was being approachable and friendly..

Being friendly can help, but you really can't influence his emotions very much :(

Since you think he appears shy, it's probably that. He could also just not want to talk to you, buy then you would see gestures like turning his body or eyes away or trying to find an exit.

Hmm he usually faces me and avoids eye contact, but this time he was like half facing me lol. I didn't get the idea he was looking for an exit because he was making a decent effort to keep talking to me. When we made eye contact he quickly broke it. It definitely wasn't how people naturally break eye contact in a conversation.

Maybe he was just trying to be nice, I don't know! Or maybe he just thinks I'm hideous lol
