First, you are questioning mortality of brain cancer, but all you know is that she has an abnormality that "might" be cancerous. So first, what does she really have? Can't guess how long without and idea of what you are speaking of. Next, if it is cancer, what kind? Some are slow, some are fast. How developed is it? Can they treat it? Etc., etc.
Your first step is to find out from the doctor what you are dealing with, then what are the recommendations and then you can figure on asking the how long question.
And once you get an answer from the doc, it may be way off. Some cancers move much quicker than the doctor expects. Some seem to slow and take a lot longer. And in some cases, new medicines my be approved that will prolong a quality life.

Not all cancers are the same. Depending on the genetic basis of the cancer, it can be slow or rapid.
A friend of mine passed out alone at home from a brain cancer. That was the first sign that something was wrong, and docs diagnosed him with a rare brain cancer a few days after. He was gone in 2 months and didn't even have time for treatment.
However, even if the scan detects a tumor, very few tumors are actually cancer. The impairment of brain function may simply be from the pressure in the skull that the tumor is exerting. If the tumor is non-cancerous, surgery to remove the tumor should relieve the pressure and return all cognitive function to your mother.

Only her doctor could (maybe) say it.
Not a bunch of ignorant people on the internet (I consider myself to be among the grossly ignorant people in matters of oncology, despite knowing quite a lot of medical things in other domains)Different for everyone. My mom died of a brain metastases 6 weeks after they found it. Brain tumors are hard to treat. Cancer is horrible I am sending prayers your mom's way.
JahblessDepends on how the cancer forms and grows. I do have a student who had brain cancer and after a few months had it removed, he still visits the hospital to make sure he's free.
