If a cure for cancer was discovered, should everyone be entitled to it?

I'm not saying that people are less equal or that people are deserving of this and that depending on their lifestyle choices. This topic is sensitive, obviously there are people out there who are completely deserving of treatment. Cancer along with heart disease are the main killers amongst the population, these diseases are horrible but as heartless as it sounds, they also keep the circle of life going and even out the number of births/deaths in a population.

Say, for the purpose of this question that in a few years time, a miracle happens, a cure for Cancer.

I'm talking about those with self inflicted habits which have had an impact to their health.

For example, someone who has smoked most of their life and continues to smoke even after being diagnosed with lung cancer. Do they deserve the treatment? Why, if they have abused and taken their body for granted, should they be allowed to carry on, a fresh start from this miracle cure?

Same about heart disease, a cure is discovered and someone with heart disease due to obesity is considering treatment options, do they deserve a second chance? Or is it an easy option and a way out from making lifestyle changes?

Obviously curing all these people would be an expensive business, would health providers want to fork out millions to people that have caused their own illnesses?

Complex subject. Thoughts?
