I eat healthy 3 meals a day, I'm vegetarian and I have small snacks throughout the day.
Anyone got any helpful hints or tips to safely put on 'good' weight?
I used to be a vegetarian - now I eat fish/seafood - and still have this problem. I've always been skinny, but I'm hoping to gain some pounds then tone some muscles to gain even more weight. Here's what people have advised me so far:
- Make sure you have enough protein. Soy products, beans, legumes, yogurt, nut butters and whole grains. If you are a lacto-ovo veg, eggs and cheeses will work.
- Get a lot of carbohydrates in your diet. Oatmeal, rice, whole grain bread and pasta.
- An increase in meal portions of healthy food won't hurt, especially while still maintaining snacks in-between meals.
- Yes to healthy fats - olive/vegetable/coconut oils, avocados, seeds and nuts.
- Avoid drinking too much with your meals. Try to drink water/juice before, like a half hour.
- Make sure you have enough calcium. Milk!
- Exercise to gain muscle. Try to lessen cardio and go for strength training.
- Good snacks are the nutrient dense one that have less water in them. Soy milk smoothies work too.
You can add coconut oil to lots of things. Like your coffee, oatmeal, use it to fry stuff in. coconut oil is very fatty, but has really good fats in it. Are you breastfeeding? That burns about 500 extra calories a day, so if you're not making up for it, you will rapidly lose weight. If you are a milk drinker, i recomend switching to whole milkk (if you dont already do that) avacado is also high in good fats.
Start working out and eat lots of protein (Particularly Whey and other forms of Lean protein).
Contrary to popular belief , it won't make you lose more weight.
In fact , it'll increase your appetite :)
I was skinny until I started working out and within 4-5 months I put on like 30-35 lbs in me :)
Eat more of whatever has more calories, carbs, and protein. Plus, do some strength training. Lifting weights. That sort of thing. It will help you gain muscle which will become additional weight. But it has to be decent working out. Not just 10 minutes per day.

If you are a vegetarian try eating lots of cheesy things like pizza, and try lots of pita bread and humus
Get yourself checked out. It should not be hard to put on weight, and there might be something wrong.
