Is hydrogen peroxide harmful or can it help whiten your teeth?

I've heard that you can take a sip of hydrogen peroxide for a little while and then spit it out to whiten your teeth. Do you know if this is true or it can be harmful for your health.

It will help to make your teeth white but you shouldn't use it more than once a week. It already is breaking down a layer of your tooth enamel, the only thing we can't grow back so once it's gone it's gone. Be careful to not apply it on your gums a lot too they are soft tissue and can be damaged to too much exposure. Dry dabbing it on with a cotton ball. You can also use baking soda with some water a mix or sprinkle some on your toothbrush and brush up. Also don't over do it this you can do maybe once or twice a week but I would do it once a week. Don't brush your gums with this too just your teeth. Just be safe and hope you see results in a fair time. Good luck. :)

Hydrogen peroxide can be very useful if you want to whiten your teeth, BUT it needs to be used in moderation. Don't apply hydrogen peroxide on your teeth more than twice a week. I'd recommend you doing it only once a week, otherwise there is a chance that it may ruin your teeth enamel.

You should not sip hydrogen peroxide because it is very harmful to the tissues of the mouth. Liquid peroxide from the pharmacy is used as a disinfectant and is usually around 3%-5%. The stuff you find in teeth whitening strips is about 0.5 - 1%.

Gargling hydrogen peroxide to whiten your teeth will probably harm your gums as well as your teeth. Common issues I could imagine are receding gums. If the gums recede below the dentin, your teeth will be very sensitive to cold, sugar and pressure.

Yeah don't do that. It can be extremely harmful if you accidentally swallow any of it so it's not even worth the risk of having it anywhere near your mouth. There plenty of other teeth whiteners out there. Personally I just brush twice a day and make sure I buy good toothpaste (it's worth the extra dollar)

Thanks. I was just curious 'cause I found an article about hydrogen peroxide at internet and it talked about a lot of marvelous things you can do with it. They even said some countries purify city water with that.

You may want to brush you teeth with toothpaste first then rinse out. Then grab baking soda and pat your tooth brush in the powder and brush your teeth for 3 min and you may want to let it sit there for a while. Then rinse out. Just make sure that when you eat and drink some did that can. stain teeth drink water and use your tongue as a brush

Just take a cotton bud and dip it to hydrogen peroxide then brush it to your teeth. It's better that zipping and spitting out.

Hydrogen Peroxide is a chemical not meant to be inside of human cells. Thats why we have peroxisomes to destroy that. Just use baking soda compounds.

Hydrogen peroxide does more harm than good. It actually destroys your cells. It shouldn't be used on cuts
