Christmas: What To Do When Receiving A Gift You Don't Want

Christmas Season is undeniably notable for giving the opportunity to give and receive gifts which seems like a penniless trade of goods, to me.

While you enjoy receiving gifts you want, there may be times when you get a gift you aren't interested in using or simply something you don't want. It's unavoidable but you have to deal with it!

Here are the things you can do when dealing with gifts you have received that seem less interesting to you.

Appreciate the deed.

Before you complain how oversized the T-shirt seems that your neighbor gave you or be sad over receiving a book you don't even like, let's first look at the optimistic side of your "sorta" unwanted gift.

1. The mere fact that the person even had the guts in giving you something for Christmas is a remarkable deed alone. It had shown that the person remembered you and had been grateful for what you have done for him/her in the past.

2. The giver had spent money for you! This is no joke since money isn't easy to earn. Be grateful for what you get.

3. You may be special to the person.

So, stop complaining for a while :)

Explore the use of the gift.

Before thinking of putting the gift in the trash bin or giving it to someone else, dare to explore and familiarize yourself with the possible uses of the gift you have received.

You may not want to miss a feature you want and need that may be present in a gift you initially dislike.

If you feel like using the gift, please do so. The giver would be far from pleased if he'd/she'd know that his/her gift is useful enough for the receiver.

Tell the giver that you're disappointed.

Do this if you really don't like something that has been given to you (although I doubt it).

This may appear as a rude thing to do but being honest about how you feel with would be appreciated, otherwise.

This is possible but I don't advise doing this right away.

Trade gifts, if possible.

If you've pondered that you really dislike the gift you've received, keep it for a while until you meet someone who'd be a rightful owner.

For instance, you meet someone who wants the gift you receive and you like her/his gift back. For sure, both of you'd be planning for an exchange. This is to ensure that both gifts will be used the way they should be.

There are many ways in dealing with this petty mishap but those three ways are the ones I can think of as of now. How about you: how do you deal with unwanted gifts?
