6 Reasons Why I Can't Get Around to Liking the Christmas Season

Beforehand, I don't mean to offend anybody in any way by this post. It's a mere observation I made during the past Christmas seasons. I love Christmas and meeting the whole family but some things just strike a nerve.

1) Christmas dinner

Of course it's nice, having all the family come together but it's also easier to get in a fight then. Especially when you have a family with children attending. The pressure of having to behave often ends with huge fights. A family fallout isn't rare on holidays in general but it's especially bad on Thanksgiving and Christmas. Sometimes being caused by the host being stressed out during all the preparations.

2) The cleanup

The guests are gone, time to sit down and relax right? People who have hosted a Christmas get together before, know how wrong this thought is. There are pots to be cleaned, there's enough dishes for loading the dishwasher three times. The watery muck in the entrance hall is making things slippery and the mood is downhill anyways. All the leftover food will have to be packed away and stored, plus it will be your food for the next week.

3) Doing the shopping

During Christmas season? There's no time you can go shopping without feeling cornered. Shops are overly full and it is really unconfortable. Besides, it takes you a lot longer to get the stuff you want, if it's still there that is. Of course you could do your shopping online but what about in-store deals or things you might nit get online? Grocery shopping is still easier in supermarkets than anything.

4) The presents

Christmas costs a lot more money than it should for being a holiday. Often gifts are only bought out of peer pressure of having to give. The amount of wrapping paper some people waste (not everybody wraps presents, I know) is unbelievable. Children often don't value Christmas as a family celebration anymore, as being spoiled rotten is the main focus. (I do know this doesn't apply to all families either.) Besides it often puts a pricetag on love. Nobody wants to really receive a gift of greater value than the one you're giving back. On top of that, you will want to gift many people but you might not be sure what they like. Giving presents is like testing your relationship, do you know each other well enough for choosing the right things?

5) Gaining weight

How many cookies did I eat? 10 or 11? Ah never mind, one more won't make a difference now. The amount of sweets, treats and other unhealthy foods during Christmas season is horribly high. Of course you should treat yourself every now and then but it doesn't mean to eat at your liking for the whole season. Of course it is hard to control yourself around all the goodies but while having only one or two a day is alright, it usuallyend with a lot more. On top of the high amount of unhealthy foods consumed, many gyms don't open at all during the holidays, so you can't even work against it.

6) Being lonely

The worst part of Christmas is undoubtedly the high suicide rate. Every year the last few days before Christmas many families loose a loved one. The season which brings so many people together sadly also parts many. The girl next door doesn't want to live through another Christmas on her own, your ex-coworker can't bear to tell his family he is jobless. Sadly many people see a reason to end their lives in a season that is supposed to be full of love and life and family and friends. Never forget that your happy season is a desperate tosomebody else.
