How much money do you give as a gift at weddings?

My parents have gone to 5 weddings between May and September.

1st wedding: 200$
2nd wedding: 150$
3rd wedding: 250$
4th wedding: 200$
5th wedding: 200$

Total of 1000$ thrown at people I don't even know >< And it's money that we could use to pay for things that we need. It's so dumb, imo, since when my sister gets married, the same amount of money will be thrown at her... So no one is really gaining a profit.

  • My last 2 wedding banquets I gave $250 each to my cousins. I'm not even close to them at all.
    I'd probably give $500 - $1000 to a really close friend.

  • Depends on the person whom's wedding i'm attending. If it's like immediate family like a sister, I would probably give around $300-500, depends on the costs they made at the wedding.
If it's a cousin and i'm really tight with him or her $100.
If it's just a person who I just know $50, most likely I wouldn't be going to such a wedding, because I don't really like weddings, except my own.

  • Oh my goodness, weddings are everywhere :-)
I've been at about 5 weddings in my 39 year old life...
Here in Belgium the minimum would be about 100 EUR, so about 130 USD.

  • I've only been two weddings in my life and both were my sisters. I was too young to get them something. I think I would spend less than 50$. Although it would depend on how much they mean to me.
