Food basket/boxes AND why I think they’d make the perfect Christmas present for ANYONE!

Are you trying to figure out what to buy for someone for Christmas? Don’t get me wrong, but buying presents for anyone can be arduous. What if they don’t like it? What do they even like? How much should I spend? Doesn’t that sound familiar lol

I love LOVE love doing food baskets/boxes! Not only can you personalise them, but you can really save a lot of money by making it yourself. I don’t think anyone can go wrong by buying someone food. It’s not going to be a waste.. PLUS it’s something that everyone can relate to.

So here I am writing this MyTake in hopes that this will find you all well. I have some suggestions and ideas that can help you structure a really decent food basket/box.

It may all look and gibberish to you lol so I’ll make it easy to follow and understand :)

Here we go..

1. Basket or Gift Box?

This will be the foundation to all the scrumptious food you plan to put in there!

I rather like the looks of a basket but if you want something inexpensive you can pick up a coloured gift box at a loose change store for a couple of dollars. Now keep in mind how big or small you want the box/basket to be. You want everything to look well balanced and cohesive.

If you’re planning on buying a lot of food get a bigger box, if you plan on getting bits and bobs, purchase a small box. The lids to the boxes aren’t really essential and the baskets/boxes can be reusable after all the food has been eaten out of it haha

2. Filling the box/basket

Fill the basket/box with scrunched up scrap paper. If you want something more fancy then just old newspaper, you can use coloured tissue paper or even shredded paper. I would suggest just using newspaper as most people will toss it in the bin anyways.

Now by scrunching up paper and filling up half of the box/basket with it, it gives the “illusion” of the box/basket being more full. It also helps prop up and level out the food you buy, making it look nicer when it’s all displayed.

3. What food to get?

Well this is entirely up to the person you hope to give this food basket/box to. I really enjoy this part of the gift, as this is where you can get really creative. You could have a specific theme that you'd like to focus on or just go all out and grab a bit of everything (Junk food, healthy food, only drinks, home essentials etc) Just think of all the things the person likes to eat/drink (Chocolate, cookies, sodas *soft drinks*, alcohol) and all of that can go into the box/basket.

You can even add essentials like body wash/soap, flour, sugar, coffee, tea, olive oil.

It’s really up to you and how much you intend to spend.

4. Finding a place for everything

This part can be tricky. It’s almost like playing tetris with the food you brought. Everything needs a place in the basket/box.

A tip? If you brought bottles of anything, line that up at the back of the basket/box and work your way forward. Use the heavier things to prop up all the things you intend on displaying in the front. Make sure the labels and bottles are standing upright and forward, so you can visually see them.

5. Adding the final touches

When you’re happy about the placement of everything you can add some final touches. That could be things like a hand written card, bows, glitter or stickers. Like me, I like to wrap the entire basket in clear cellophane and tie it up with a big massive bow. It just helps to contain everything that is inside and it looks AMAZINGGGG!!

Well there you have it! I hope that wasn’t too confusing lol but I hope this gives you an idea on what to give to someone on Christmas.

Thank you for reading my MyTake :)
