Buying stuff in the form of mental relaxation.
What a unique word that isn't often used to define something like this. I guess you could state that this is like therapy but I feel like this only lasts for that moment. It's not like what you buy could relax you every single time you look or use it (unless it's something technology wise, but even then, that can fail you).
I agree that purchasing objects can relax you because you go into this state where when you look at something you see how your using it or when you will, and it instantly takes your mind off whatever was disturbing you.
I think the main bad part to this is the fact of getting carried away with money and overspending. If this is something you do a lot, the tip I will give you is plan a certain amount of money you will spend and get it into cash form so you won't have the urge to use more that is on your card.
