St. Patrick's Day is just around the corner in 4 days. Figured I would get an early jump on it, lol. Never done a MyTake for a holiday before. So here are some facts y'all might not know about this Irish holiday.

WE ARE ALL WEARING THE WRONG COLOR!


Yes that's right. St. Patrick didn't wear green. He would wear a light shade of blue. The color green became associated with St. Patrick's Day after it was linked to the Irish independence movement in the late 18th century.



SAINT PATRICK WAS BRITISH!


It is believed St. Patrick, a Roman-Britain-born Christian missionary, was born in the late fourth century and is credited with bringing Christianity to the Irish people.

REASON FOR THE SHAMROCKS


According to Irish legend, the saint used the three-leafed plant as a metaphor for the Holy Trinity when he was first introducing Christianity to Ireland.

THE FIRST ST. PATRICKS DAY PARADE


Irish immigrants began observing the holiday in Boston in 1737 and the first St. Patrick’s Day parade was held in New York City in 1766.

Aside from the color green, the activity most associated with St. Patrick's Day is drinking. However, Irish law, from 1903 to 1970, declared St. Patrick's Day a religious observance for the entire country meaning that all pubs were shut down for the day.
