What would you do if your boyfriend didn't get you a Christmas gift?

Well that's what happened to me. My boyfriend of now 2 months didn't get me a Christmas gift. He doesn't have a job. It's not easy for him to get money. I told my bff and Dad that he didn't get me anything yet and they were both really taken back. I don't blame them but now I look like an idiot. I understand and I'm not trying to be greedy but now I kinda look stupid. I was okay about it all until my Dad and bff were telling me how unacceptable it is. Like he couldn't borrow money from a friend of even get me a card. I got him a nice hoodie for $40.00. I rushed around to get a gift for him. I don't want to break up with him but I want a way that I can tell him I want a gift and I don't want this to happen in the future. At the same time I don't want to sound shallow. I just want a gift so I can say "Yeah my boyfriend got this for me."

What would you do if you were in my situation?

What would you say to keep it from happening again?

(Please keep in mind that I DON'T want to break up with him or be bitchy about it)

I also forgot to mention that he always seems to have money to go out and party but now with my gift he dosn't have money.

I would say that you should have talked about it before, he might think that you didn't mind not getting a present because of his economy. Last year my boyfriend and I had been together around 2 months as well, but we decided not to give each other Christmas presents.

What I think you should do is talk with him, and tell him how much it hurt not to have gotten a gift from him. But the [I just want a gift so I can say "Yeah my boyfriend got this for me"] I wouldn't mention, that could sound very wrong.

Oh I meant the whole I just want a gift so I can say "Yeah my boyfriend got this for me" meaning like I don't care what it is I just want to know that there was some thought behind it. He did know I was getting him a gift.

Like I said at FIRST I was fine with it. I was talking to my best friend and my Dad and THEY were saying how he should have gotten me something and now I feel bad. I KNOW that I'm not shallow. It's pretty obvious that you read this wrong...go get glasses honey :)

IT WAS F***ING CHRISTMAS! I think since I got him something nice he should be returning the favor and I'm not the only person who feels this way apparently...

It's not their relationship. I know. But that's what happens when you have people that care. They were saying if I took the time to pick something out for him he should have gotten something for me. Like no thought was there about it. They don't want to see me hurt like I was in the past. I agree it's not their buisness but they did comment on it. :/ They did it because they care.
