I agree with the other retorts(great word) given, I too hate those types of situations. I especially hate it because you are doing the right thing and getting mocked for it. Just don't get too bothered by it and don't stoop to their level.

you could go for a mom insult and say "MOM!? Do I look like a whale to you?"
