We all know that one person with a disaster area of a bedroom. Clothes everywhere, garbage on the floor, an awful but undetectable smell wafting through the air, etc. Well here are a few tips to clean up that awful mess, from the mind of a teenager!

1. Start with clothes

You can plop down in from of that pile of laundry and do the sniff test to see what's clean and what's dirty. Once decided, toss it into it's respective pile on the floor. Laundry is done!

2. Garbage is next

This is a task that can also allow you to sit in your spot on the floor, but it may require some slight crawling. Just pick up a piece of garbage and toss it into the can across the room. You may miss, but it's close enough to the trash, no biggie. No one ever said you had to put trash in the trash can anyway.

3. Get distracted

Whether it be by your phone, your need to pee that leads you on a wild hunt for snacks, or just the grease stain on the wall, it is required that every teenager get distracted at least once while cleaning. This distraction must be pointless and keep you from your work for at least half an hour. We often call this a "break".

4. Get back to cleaning

You can pick up a few things that you missed from the first two steps, or maybe even pick up the stuff you picked up in the first place. As long as stuff is getting picked up, you're making progress!

5. Find something you lost and play with it for awhile

It can be clothing, a wrapped candy item, or just an old toy you used to be fascinated. Reconnecting with a lost treasure warrants another break from cleaning!

6. Organize everything on your shelves, drawers, and closet

A clean room requires an organized space. Dump out all of the drawers in your room into one big pile and sort the items into their designated drawers. For the things that you're not sure about where to place, just leave them on the floor. You're cleaning it anyway!

7. Realize how much you have left to do

You should look around your room and see how much crap is still all over the place. You've made no progress! This is the point where you should just pile everything into one corner of your room and toss a blanket over it. Out of sight, out of mind.

8. All Clean!

Enjoy your squeaky clean room!
