i really can't understand what parents are thinking when do nothing except watch as their toddlers crawl and wobble around happily in the middle of sidewalks and train station exits where hundreds of adults are rushing to work. literally just right in front of traffic. people get startled and just barely avoid stepping on these kids. the parents just watch silently, sometimes making eye contact with the people who almost stepped on their kids. no scolding, no apologizing, not a single word.
THATS RIGHT AND DON'T FORGET TO CONTROL THEM WHEN YOU BRING THEM TO OTHER PEOPLE'S HOUSE'S!!! I can't count how many times a relative has brought their kids to our house and they've touched something without permission or broken something. NEW PARENTS CONTROL YOUR KIDS FOR THE GOOD OF MANKIND!!!

Um I don't think you've ever dealt with kids before. I've been a babysitter for 3 years and have babysat many toddlers including my 3 year old brother. If a child is having a tantrum, you try everything you can to get them to stop. I try soothing them by giving them a hug, asking what they want, yelling. If nothing works, you pretty much need to leave them alone and let the tantrum run its course. A lot of kids only cry because they want attention. If you don't give them any, they eventually realize they're being brats and stop crying. That's why a lot of parents "don't do anything about it." Because they're fed up. Also, just because you tell a child to stop crying, doesn't mean they automatically do it. That's not how it works. Try telling a baby to stop crying when they can't even speak yet. Some kids are better than others, and I agree that the bad ones should be disciplined. However it's not always that easy
Except that you can't just leave a child alone in public, in a store, where there are other people who are trying to go about their day without having children run around their feet while screaming and breaking stuff. Even if your kid is having a temper tantrum, you can hold their hand and keep them close to you, or put them in the seat of your shopping cart. The crying isn't the issue, the issue is that they're running around the stores with their snotty faces, touching things they shouldn't touch, breaking things they're not allowed to break, and running into other people who want to be left alone.
I've never seen a child break anything before. Of course you stay close to them. Leaving a little kid alone for any reason is not a good idea. I'm just saying that you can't really control a kids tantrum. You just need to wait until it's over
@Goldie757 Exactly. I love how teens today think they know everything. I have also worked in childcare at a private school where they discipline kids the correct way.
I wish I could down this comment more than once. I've been around kids since I was 11 and many kids are spoiled brats that need to be disciplined and popped in the mouth. There's no such thing as giving in to the child, not in my family. You act like you don't have sense you will get embarrassed in front of everyone.
@SovereignessofVamps Some children are just bad. BAD. Or of they do something and the parent doesn't reprimand them for it they'll continue to push what they get away with. Giving into them never works because they learn all they have to do is keep acting a fool until they get what they want.
I have a feeling this is a non parent speaking I am a live and let live person knowing young children can be a handful, it is easy for a person on the outside to look in and wonder why they can't discipline their children.
OMG... the worst is Walmart midday, on a weekend. Your kid shouldn't have free reign of any store. Please watch your children, not every establishment is a fucking Chuck E Cheese.
I don't mind kids acting crazy because that's what they do but I do want to see an effort on the parents part to stop the behavior and honestly it shouldn't take 5 minutes to calm your kid down lol

yeah they do that, then child protection service gets involved saying you can't do this and you can't do that, or you go to jail for child abuse. just for disciplining a kid by what your instincts tell you, to slap it out of them.
What you find in life is that there are wayyyyy too many people who shouldn't have children because they have no clue how to handle them. I love kids and want then some day. But I agree with you on this take. Discipline your kids.

i just give them the crazy eyes and tell them to deal with them or fuck off out my shop. it's not like i need their money i have lots off it.
i don't blame the children it's like you said parents are scared to discipline children know since they have rights.
What do you mean by discipline? Besides most people that have kids that act like that simple aren't good parents anyways so you can't expect much out of them. The way the child is acting is always the parent's fault.

I understand OP and I don't disagree. Understand though, the world breeds A LOT of ignorance. This site alone proves that. :)
No is no. you give them just a hint of control over you, you're done!

Seriously. It's bad enough that I have to intermingle with children every time I leave the house on the weekends, I don't wanna be forced to listen to the little banshee spawn too.

As someone who has worked in childcare for years, this is simply not true.
@Goldie757 Exactly. I love how teens today think they know everything. I have also worked in childcare at a private school where they discipline kids the correct way.
@lumos Exactly!
I never said I know everything. I said it's not as easy as just "controlling the child." It's a lot harder than just saying "be quiet"
I wish I could down this comment more than once. I've been around kids since I was 11 and many kids are spoiled brats that need to be disciplined and popped in the mouth. Some kids need to get popped in the mouth? Oh my god I seriously hope you've never been around kids.. What a horrible thing to say.
@LoloWaye Then why would kids in daycares act fine? It's not necessary. The parents are probably where the kids got it from.
@SovereignessofVamps Some children are just bad. BAD. Or of they do something and the parent doesn't reprimand them for it they'll continue to push what they get away with. Giving into them never works because they learn all they have to do is keep acting a fool until they get what they want.
That's why you don't give into them obviously
@LoloWaye All the kids I've met like that in real life, had behavioral issues or even disorders. May not be their fault.
I have a feeling this is a non parent speaking I am a live and let live person knowing young children can be a handful, it is easy for a person on the outside to look in and wonder why they can't discipline their children.

Every time I see a parent spank or slap their child in public. I immediately think, "What did that kid do to their poor parent?".
And this is why I feel like I'm doing the world a favor by not breeding.
Childfree all the way!
What do you mean by discipline? Besides most people that have kids that act like that simple aren't good parents anyways so you can't expect much out of them. The way the child is acting is always the parent's fault.

I semi agree, but I will say the worst incidents I've seen have been with adults.
No is no. you give them just a hint of control over you, you're done!

I couldn't act that way in public growing up, especially when you lived in the Caribbean.
It's that Jamaican upbringing! xD
@Relentless_Hippie Yup, my mom wouldn't be afraid to smack me into Pluto lol
maybe you used to be able to discipline your child in public but not anymore, no people will throw you in jail for child abuse if you try
"beat the shit out of your children because I don't want to hear them"
Nice. Okay. Thanks. Good take.
I never said that. I said discipline.
Exactly! What happened to the days of giving a nubile 14 year old girl a few gentle spanks on her pert, smooth, naked ass to put her in her place?
