My boyfriend comes from money and it makes me uncomfortable.
I suppose it wouldn't be a huge deal if he didn't know it or if his entire family didn't act like they came from money. To clarify, HE doesn't have any money, his PARENTS have money. He will be taking over his father's business after he graduates college.
Like, my family does okay. We're not loaded, but we do okay. We're not in poverty or anything and live a good life, but his family? Good heavens.
They just throw out money talk like it's no big deal. When we first started dating, we went out to dinner with his parents and his dad was super excited about the "great deal" on a meal we were getting ($90 a person for a 3 course meal). My father would have had a cow. We may be well off, but we live well below our means.
They would tease me about ordering the cheapest thing on the menu. One time they made me order a $80 steak dinner as opposed to the cheapest thing on the menu (chicken tenders for $28).
The other day we went clothing shopping for my boyfriend and his mother spent $1,400 on a suit for him. She hands the teller her card and goes, "Your father had to work less than an hour for this."
His dad says that he wouldn't want to be president because he couldn't handle the pay cut. This means he makes more than the president of the United States. The president makes $400,000 a year.
It just makes me uncomfortable. I feel really awkward. They only have the best stuff and they go over the top on nearly everything. They own 3 houses (one on a lake and one overseas), 4 cars, and 3 boats.
His dad got "bored" one day and freaking paid everyone's bill when we were out to lunch. And not just everyone at our table. He paid the bill for everyone who was in the building.
