100k dollars a year and over. 'Wealthy' would be over 250k. No one needs more than 60-70k to live their lives entirely comfortable. Once you start going over that, then you're more than well off. Poor, would be anything less than 20k a year, even if the government says it's 12k. At 12k, you're barely scraping by and hardly able to eat--rent for an apartment is 8k a year, for a cheap-ass roach and gangsta infested one--probably living out of your car from time to time or a lot. To live somewhat comfortably, a person needs around 30-35k a year--this does not include much of a savings, health issues, and investing in a house in the future, or supporting a family.
My dad made 40k a year for a family of four, and we struggled quite a bit. We were comfortable, most of the time, but we also went 50,000 into debt when I was a kid, just so we could eat and have a roof over our heads. Health costs killed us.
Ultimately, surviving means less outcome than income. Even millionaire football players go broke, because they spend all their money stupidly. Which brings up an entirely new question: Why... the fuck... do football players make so much damn money? I don't care if it's popular. It's grown men throwing a ball around. Capitalism is shit.
