Its a very interesting quote about luxury and poverty and I kept thinking about it for a white now.
What do you guys think? Do you agree with that? Why or why not?
Eh.. I feel this is just promotion on her part, so I'm presuming she's talking about fashion with that quote. In that case, vulgarity would mean being unrefined and tasteless. So saying it's the opposite of luxury, she's really only implying that luxury, which in this case is Coco Chanel, brings sophistication and good taste.
Really though, she made vulgarity/luxury ambiguous to work for her quote, and that's why it seems to have no connection to poverty/luxury.
I wouldn't quote a Nazi sympathizer... o. O
I disagree. A luxurious estate is the opposite of a poor / economically challenged estate.
A luxurious knowledge of the world is the opposite of a poor knowledge of the world.
Because Coco Chanel was a fan... of their work... And worked for them. How do you think she got so rich during and right after the war?
Do some research, you'll be surprised.
It's so funny that people love and support Chanel - it's ironic really...
Isn't what you're doing now even more unnecessary?
Someone can be poor and luxurious. Luxury comes from good taste and having a style. Though, overly luxurious people are vulgar
From my point of view it's more so the opposite of modesty. Luxury is generally used as a form of advertisement to others to express pride and accomplishment. It's an influential statement of power to lure the weak and hungry to the needs of the wealthy.
I honestly don't see any connection between vulgarity and luxury/poverty.
I very much agree with you.
Thank you! :)

I have been very very poor (homeless living on the streets), and quite wealthy. Luxury is the result of having the funds to. live as you want to. Vulgarity is having the funds to live as you think OTHERS want you to live. It's the difference between neauvo rich and established wealth. So no not the opposite of poverty, but rather how you use your funds.
To me they are both not quite right if I was making that statement, I would say
"Luxury is the opposite of discomfort" meaning somewhere I feel comfortable regardless of what is in the environment.
I don't agree in both cases... They have nothing to do with each other
