Is it selfish to want to be lead singer of a band?

I don't excel at playing any instruments, but I excel vocally and poetically (poetically meaning with writing lyrics) is it selfish for me to want to form a new band where instead of writing the lyrics for someone else to sing and other people to play and not being recognized at all for what I'm contributing, to want to be the frontman vocally singing my own lyrics? Cuz I mentioned this dream of mine to a friend and he said that it was "extremely ego" of me to consider writing the lyrics AND singing them when I have no instrumental ability to add to a band and that I should just stick to writing for people because if I write and sing I'm gonna look like an arrogant douche.

No many lead singers can't play. Besides everyone knows that the ego of a band is the lead guitarist (joke). The issue you are going to have is the need for collaboration, the band is going to want to contribute and they may want to play things differently than what you see in your head. As you aren't hiring them (I'm assuming you can't afford studio musicians if you can then go for it!) they are going to want to get SOMETHING from it, and realize your vision will not be enough.
I play bass and have been in a few bands, I also worked for a while as a sound engineer for a big audio company. And moonlighted as a house sound guy at a few bars.

Oh no, I don't plan on writing the music, just the lyrics. Creative freedom goes to those who play the instruments and actually know wtf they're talking about musically. I know I don't know shit musically. I'm just good with words

Who cares if you're producing the lyrics and able to sing them then do it and if they say no tell them to go fu themselves
