Why does recipies that has no acid has baking soda and vice versa?

I saw in a sugar cookie recipie and brownie recipie?

  • I'm not sure about the need or lack there of for acidity, but I think baking soda helps make to cookies/brownies "rise" or plump up.

    • both baking soda and powder does it. but soda has no acid where was powder has the acid.
