During blood donation, can girls on period simply avoid the needle?

  • No. That's not how that works. First of all, period blood has a higher fibrinogen content (which allows it to clot faster, thus forming the endometrium) so it can't be extracted quickly or injected into a person. Second, the amount of blood expressed during the average period is under four tablespoons (compared to the quart required for a standard donation, this is negligible).

  • I find that wringing out used tampons can fill a vial quickly.

  • NO... It has to be USABLE blood to be put into other people to save their lives. Period blood is your body shedding old blood that's only good for the equivalent of being fertilizer for an embryo.
