Can an old job call your new job and start trouble?

Long story short - I worked for Walgreens for less than a month. I hated it. The other employees were real jerks. They trained me for what I was hired then completely made me do the shit jobs around the place. I quit without a 2 weeks notice. They found out I started a new job. I love my new job, been there for 4 months now. Can they call my manager and start trouble? Do you think they would?

  • By law an ex employer can only give your potential employer basic info and they are only able to do so when your potential employer asks them for it. Anything outside of that could get your ex employer in some serious trouble.

  • Doubtful they'd call, but on the off chance they did... deny it all.

  • They have a right to, but, probably wouldn't. However, remember, new jobs can always ask about your old job, and even call them, themselves

  • That'd probably be slander which is illegal.

  • They can because you quit without giving them 2 weeks notice.

  • Legally, no, they cannot do this.

    • As an afterthought, this may be part of the reason it's frowned upon to speak badly of your previous employers during an interview.
