Questions about dogs with ticks?

If there are several big dogs that are usually inside the house and they all have ticks what will happen if you don't take them to the vet?

  • You should at least try to remove them yourself if you do not take them to the vet. Ticks can carry Lyme disease. Your dog could get very sick.
To remove yourself, clean the area with rubbing alcohol, grasp the tick with the tweezers as close to the skin as possible, without crushing the body of the tick and pull straight upwards. Place the tick in a jar or container.

    • I've also found lots of "full" ticks on the floors. What will happen if I don't find them all, and are they a danger to humans?

    • Yes, they are dangerous to humans. You could also contract Lyme disease. Lyme disease can be very serious if left untreated and can even cause death. If there are that many you need to get your dogs to the vet as soon as possible. Also, once they have been seen and looked over, ticks taken off and everything you should get them medicated to prevent them from getting them again in the future. Your dogs are probably severely anemic at this point.

  • They scratch their skin until the skin eventually starts to bleed.. Then infections can be caused

So not only do they have ticks they have a painful sore which could eventually lead to amputation
