Why do animals love period blood?

I recently got a little kitten. He's been neutered and everything. I started my period and have a very heavy flow. A bit of it leaked on my panties. When I ws at the washroom, my kitten comes in and starts trying to lick/eat my panties where the blood leaked through. I tried to get it away from him but we actually ended up playing tug a war and he war growling like a dog just to try and keep them! What the heck? This also reminds me, I used to have a dog and she once got into the garbadge where all my used pads were... she made a big mess trying to eat all the blood out of them! Why are animals like this? It's really gross but what is the science behind it? Thanks.

  • They just like blood basically. And your crotch is your scent.
That's why they sniff eachothers butts, same deal to them

  • Their carnivores so they eat meat which can be really bloody. So I guess they associate it with that.
