  • I have two because I am from the German part of Switzerland. My first native language is Swiss and my second native language is German. The difference between the two languages is similar to the difference between Dutch and standard high German. German has a strange role in my country because we mostly write and read in German (this is particularly true for all formal matters, whether it is a college paper or a street sign) but we exclusively speak in Swiss.

  • English... it sucks because walking around the streets on the other side of the world, people can still understand what I am saying to my family when we dont want others eavesdropping on our conversation. It also sucks because you might want to learn another language, but it is hard to do when half the earth's population already speaks your native language as either a first or second language.

    • My girlfriend comes from South Korea ;-). I've lived in Seoul for a year and attended intensive Korean classes every day. I've forgotten a lot again unfortunately and there are no Korean classes offered in my country but I'm still trying to get better by studying on my own and talking to my girlfriend in Korean ;-). It's a really cool and pretty language. It's certainly needs a lot of time to get your head around as a German native and in the beginning I didn't like it so much but the more I learn it, the more I love it :-).
