  • Because if he was skinny and clean shaven it would ruin everybody's outlook on Santa. With everything changing these days because people take offense to everything, I wouldn't be surprised if Santa changes soon too.

  • The man actually existed once. He was canonized as a saint in the catholic church. The image we have of Saint Nicholas today is meant to resemble him. Of course, it has been dramatized for commercial effect and likely to be portrayed as less threatening and more jolly to children.
