Have you ever pretending not to know something even though you actually knew it and is there a word for that?

  • Sometimes people assume you don't know something and try to explain it to you, and it's easier to just nod and be like "ah okay," instead of cutting them off and being like "yeah I know this."

The only other example I can think of is playing devil's advocate when debating.

Or trolling someone to mess with them.

    (ghetto) he frontin'
    tactical stupidity
    disingenuous
    deliberately obtuse

What Guys Said 3

  • There are lots of reasons
    (1) A form of shyness - People often use it for a conversation starter to be comfortable in any new conversation
    (2) Make sure a person feels at ease with you - Not trying to look superior (I suppose being humble)
    (3) Being encouraging - Saying "Hey I am not sure about this either, let's take another look"
    (4) Now a move to the dark side being sneaky
    (5) Being manipulative
    (6) Being rude
    (7) And as someone else said using a great word "Disingenous"
