And if the applicant is a woman and prettier than her she won't give them a opportunity. Do people do this? She said even if the woman is qualified she doesn't care because she doesn't want a better looking woman around. I am considering not being her friend anymore lol. Is what she's doing illegal?

The thing is, its not illegal. She can claim its part of the screening process.
My company does that too. Since we work with children and families, every applicant is screen in all aspects of social media. If their profile is public, its public information. They lose their privacy privileges. We also run them through police data bases to make sure they're not on the sex offenders registry.
