Even in my homecountry (South America), it's also more expensive than other fishes. Why is that?

Mostly for two reasons:
1. Wild salmon is expensive because our planet's oceans are totally over-fished. Sadly, nobody really cares about this except Greenpeace and some other NGOs. There used to be salmons in abundance but nowadays, the oceans are pretty much empty. There are almost no wild salmons left (it's even worse with Tunas. The blue-fin tuna is officially recognized as an almost extinct species and cannot be fished or sold anymore).
2. In the case of salmons that were bred in a fish farm, they are the better choice ethically but they are hard to grow. They need a lot of food and care so that they become big and strong and fatty. It takes much longer to raise a bunch of salmons than other fish.2
