  • Because he's not a politician, and people are frustrated with politicians, their political correctness and lack of ability to get things accomplished. For us.

  • I guess because he is an idiot.
    Same as with the Kardashians.
Idiots are always recognised and in the spot-light.

    • He went to an Ivy League college. He can't be stupid. He's probably smarter than you and me combined.

    • He is certainly book smart if he didn't pay for the exams (because it's a possiblity), but he has very little common sense from the things he has said.

  • I think because he makes shocking moves (like running for president) and says shocking things (like racist remarks). It seems like the only way to get the spotlight is to do something dramatic and shocking. Unfortunately. There's more deserving people of the spot light than he is.

  • Because he says things in a way the catches the news and media's attention and has a name that most people recognize. Sadly, he gets all of the attention and other candidates, who are much more deserving of the spotlight, do not get their views heard as often.

    • Even if what he says is wrong and stupid? If Homer Simpson would run for president, he would get people to vote for him too? Even though he is stupid and not even real?

    • It doesn't matter if you personally agree with him or not. The fact is that he is saying things in a way (whether yelling, blunt, or just rude) that gets attention and the media and voters are eating up.

  • 'Cause America makes dumb people famous...

  • I think people like him for a mix of things. I'm not voting for him but I get that he is honest. As a society we are afraid to say what we think because we don't want to offend but we weren't put on earth to care about offending people. we were taught not to offend. But other than that I don't understand why people like his childishness, he is a arrogant sociopath, he is definitely prejudice and just crazy

What Guys Said 31

  • Because people like you give him tons of free advertising. Seriously, people probably know way more about him than any other candidate just for that reason. From the marketing perspective, name recognition is extremely important. If it weren't for all the free publicity he would remain a nobody. I think a large number of people would vote for him just because they don't know enough about the other candidates to vote for them.

One thing people like about him is that he's an asshole. That's right, a lot of people consider that a positive. Why? Because for far too long we have had 'leaders" who don't do shit. We have had leaders who cave in under pressure. We have leaders who won't stand up and fight for what they want. They are all soft and mushy, and afraid to make waves. It's the status quo, and will continue to be the status quo, until a pure asshole comes in and says fuck you to the status quo and not give a shit what anybody thinks.

Are there negatives (besides being an asshole)? Absolutely. But every candidate has negatives. For myself I can't think of many politicians that I agreed with more than 60-70% of their policies. Some things with Trump just make me cringe, with his views on the environment being tops on that list.

If he gets elected he'll stir things up and that's exactly what a lot of people want. The president doesn't really have all that much power. Some of the nuttier things about him would never be implemented. The Congress has WAY more power than the president. This is how you have to view all presidential candidates - you have to look at the president in conjunction with Congress, and look at what realistically might happen. You can't look at the president alone, but as one part of a larger system.

The way I look at it, if a piece of legislation is really that good, then it won't matter who the president is, because Congress will be able to override a veto. That means that very few laws would pass, but that's the way it should be. If they do pass, there is a real good chance that it's a good and popular piece of legislation.

  • because he picks subjects people are (legitimately or not) concerned about, and then screams about everything that is wrong, without being PC about it (depending on what the issue is, and what his opinion is, this can be good or bad), and then swears he will fix it. And because he is so amazingly full of himself, the fact is HE believes he can fix it, which means his followers believe he is being honest with them.

Raw language, no fake persona instead of his in-your-face style, and conviction to make changes, and you have a person people DESPERATELY cling to when they've gotten sick and tired of soft, controlled language run past 18 PR guys before it is expressed, a plastic smile that tells you nothing about who the person is, and campaign promises that are made just to appeal to people, but that won't actually get done.

I strongly oppose Trump, but there is a damned good reason why so many people support him.

  • Because he is honest and comes from a background that is very different than anyone else. He also is into politics for a very different reason than the other guys and we all know it. He doesn't need to worry about winning or losing the election in so far as money goes because he has enough of it to start a new one.

Trump is in this election saying what he's saying because he feels a call to action. He feels that the country needs him and that he can really make a difference. He doesn't need to listen to lobbyists or people who fund him because he doesn't rely on anyone but himself.

Trump is popular because whether you like him or not, he is an extremely genuine politician and the truth is, that this election has a very good chance of being between Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump and it will be a very important election because it will force us to make a decision that we have been avoiding for a few decades.

    "Does America want Communism?"

    • Would you vote for him?

    • Show All
    • @SarahsSummer Right, but whaty you don't understand is that communist ideas can exist in our democratic system. Just because we are a democracy doesn't mean that Communist ideas can't be brought to it, and to even use a term like have nots in this context is communist.

And look into him, you'll find that he did indeed support communism openly and that he has done things to make it difficult for landlords to own property, he also cut off the support we gave to the Contra rebels, a backing that dates back to the Reagan administration.

Am I trying to call him a communist necessairally? Not really, but it proves my point. Just because you are running for a democratic system, doesn't mean you can't bring Communist ideas into the mix.

I believe voting for Sanders is just the first step heading in the direction of that.

    • I'm fully aware of Bernice's leanings, his prior membership in the young socialist party while in college and his far far left views on many issues But our checks and balance system of government would prevent communism taking control. Don't worry. He won't become president.

  • I copied some of this from another answer I wrote.
-He's openly racist and a lot of his supporters love that.
    - People are tired of corruption and fake politicians. The system is rigged and people know it so they don't want another establishment candidate who says all the focus tested things and tries to seem like a man of the people in the fakest way. Bush is bought Rubio is bought even Cruz who wants to make himself seem like a rebel is bought. Trump is the only one on the republican side who hasn't taken money from rich donors and corporations super pacs etc.

-He says what he believes even if it's unpopular. People like that he's authentic. You could see how Marco Rubio looked like a robot repeating the same talking point, people pick up on that, they know he's a puppet. With Bush it's just as obvious.
Trump attacked George Bush in the last debate something no other republican has done even though most agree he wasn't a great president. He says things that others are to scared to say. The audience boos him he says those are the special interest groups here to support Bush. Nothing really throws him off his game.

-He's playing the silverback gorilla alpha male role. If you watch a debate look how he leans on his podium, it's literally like a gorilla. He keeps bullying the other candidates he bitchslaps them all over the stage and they cower down before him. Jeb Bush is pathetic compared to Trump, it's downright sad and the others are not much better. Cruz also didn't say anything against Trump in the beginning he's only starting now. People who know nothing and just watch the debates see that he's the strongest and want to vote for him.

-The whole drama about shortening the debates. He wanted to show that he can get people to do what he wants, he wants to seem like a leader. He played that so well. Even though he inherited 500 million dollars and wasn't a great business man he presents himself as one. He's not great at business in my opinion but great at public relations, marketing. He puts his name on all the buildings and people associate his name with wealth and success. Republicans have always thought rich people are somehow better, and they like business men as their politicians.

That's just a few reasons but I think the ones I said in the beginning are the most important, people don't want fake bought politicians. Its the same reason Bernie Sanders caught up to Hillary out of basically nowhere she's bought and fake.

  • Because he says what people are thinking and does it without notes or a teleprompter. Agree or not with his positions, people believe he will do what he says. He is not a conservative republican. He is more like a Kennedy or Truman Democrat. His profound successes render a few turds like eminent domain and tactical bankruptcies insignificant. He WILL be elected and will have a Republican legislature. Once again, like many times in the past, Trump will do exactly what the hell he wants. I hope he WILL make America great again. Its going to be an interesting term.

  • It's because he is the only one who addresses certain issues instead of silencing them.

You know when you have (legit or not) concerns about certain issues, but no politician ever addresses them - or when they do, they only do it incredibly liberal - you kinda flock towards the first one who puts his balls on the table and speaks out. Independent if his solutions are legit or not.
