  • "Way" means path or space designated for moving. "Parkway" is literally a way through a park. "Driveway" is a space reserved for driving a car on or off a property. The use of "park" meaning to leave a vehicle in place is newer but related. First there was "park" as a place for vehicles to rest, and then it became a verb meaning to put a vehicle in the park.

  • Because parkways tend to run through scenic or well-landscaped areas, otherwise known as parks. A driveway is named such because it is an access route intended for you to drive on, as opposed to the pedestrian access which you walk on.
