  • German is most common ancestry in the US.

    Not sure of the order of the rest, but some of the top ones include African, Irish, Hispanic and English.

    The order will be different depending on how the data is collected and how you classify it. Mostly it's done by self-reporting. As far as classification, how do you define a country and when? If German is the most common ancestry, which Germany? What time period? What does it include?

      Note that this is not the same as ethnic groups. That data is strictly by country of origin, not ethnicity. The census department might have more ethic data, but I'm not as familiar with it as the immigration data.
