  • Do you remember that guy that lived in Ethiopia a million years ago? What was his name? Gog?

    • A million years ago people had no means of data storage, but today you can record a video of yourself on a flash drive and burry it in your back yard for future alien archaeologists to find.

    • If you have those concerns you could go all out and seal in vacuum an entire laptop, but I still believe that engineers would be able to reverse engineer a system that can read the data because this would be knowledge that already exists. Nowadays something that can read floppy disks can be manufactured even though its an outdated standard.

I agree with you that data that hasn't been converted to the new standard will be lost but in the example we are talking about a special case in which the device is properly preserved.

    • @Pac-Man well yes in that case you're right.

  • That's my goal. I can't say that they will remember me for million years but I will do enough to be remembered at least next 3000 years.
