What would happen if there was a pathogen which attacked the X or Y chromosomes?

Would the human population slowly decline until a vaccine was made?

  • no pathogen would focus on "x or y" chromosomes. just chromosomes in general. a pathogen attacking the chromosomes of a cell would cause the cell to mutate or die. mutation of cells mostly leads to cancer, and death of the cells is known as necrosis.

so it´s either gonna be necrosis or cancer. not vastly interesting. there are lots of pathogens, who already cause those things.

    • google the symptoms of radiation sickness. that would happen if a pathogen would be able to alter our dna, which is unlikely to happen.

  • Yes but the rate of the decline would depend on which. If it attached to the X chromosome, both genders would suffer, attached to both X and Y, both genders would suffer. If it was Y, then only men would suffer. Then again if it was the X chromosome, theoretically speaking, women would die off faster as we are made of 2 X chromosome sets Which could lead to double pathogens or mutations in the DNA, while men's DNA are a set of X and Y chromosomes each.

    • Nope the idea just came to my head now aha

    • Well too bad, it's already a comic so you can't make money from the idea.

    • How wouldn't anything happen though? Surely a lot of people would die

  • we'll die
