  • Communism is an ideology formulated by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels. It is a form of government instituted primarily in European and Asian nations. The form of government varies from country to country and, in practice, deviates from the theory propounded by Marx and Engels. Which form of Communism do you want discussed?

Good explanation - but I think you miss a major point. In order to create the collective good for the community and society there needs to be a common denominator. And the more people are involved, the more the common denominator needs to be decreased in order to be applicable for everyone.

  • as with most political theory it is a fine idea... in theory

the good? it gets rid of the class system. the government owns all means of production and commerce. people do jobs for which they can best serve and the government gives out food, money, etc as is needed by each individual

the bad? as with all political theory is that in practice it is very very easily corrupted. a truly good Socialist or Communistic regime relies on a very altruistic and virtuous government that will do what is absolutely best for the people. unlike in Democracy with all it's checks and balances Communism gives all the power to a central government. and in ALL Communistic governments that have tried to exist corruption inevitably followed.

  • The theory of Communism put forth by Marx and Engels is unworkable in practice. So when a nation implements it, there are always little things done differently that end up having a dramatic effect in the long run.

An example: Communism is an extension of Socialism, and an absolute requirement of Socialism is that it has to be implemented within a Democracy. However, part of Marx's theory is that Communists have to do whatever is possible to limit the involvement of Capitalists in the economy. So, most Communist states limit democratic participation (voting) to only people that are members of the Communist party. This breaks a lot of the fundamental mechanisms that makes a Socialist system work, and creates a very unfair political environment for a lot of people and eventually leads to violence in a lot of cases.

      Can you further explain?

Full equality to everyone does not work because everybody is different and everybody deserves different things.

  • It is good for some people, but some people find it really bad.

  • Good: intentions

    Bad:
    - actual fairness of some elements.
    - economic incentives
    - ability to reward economic rent-seeking
    - outcomes
