I live next to a very start-up hub kind of place. I am thinking because of their less number of employees they may just want students?
I have a degree in Business.
Can I call a bunch of start-ups and ask if I can volunteer with them?

Cold-calling companies is unlikely to get you anywhere. Firstly, very few people want to talk to strangers on the phone. That was over about 25 years ago. Secondly, companies do not take volunteers unless they are already setup to do that with an internship program. But lots and lots of companies have internship programs. Find those companies and apply to be an intern.0
Yeah, and they might hire you. Nobody really wants to deal with a volunteer. You'd be better to just apply and pitch yourself.0
It cannot hurt to try.0
